Derek Vanstone
Derek Vanstone is the Founder and Principal Engineer of Lake Effect Engineering, where he partners with manufacturers to improve reliability, optimize processes, and execute engineering projects that drive measurable results.
With over a decade of experience in engineering, maintenance, and operations, Derek has worked across the food, beverage, fermentation, and other regulated manufacturing industries. His background includes capital project management, maintenance and reliability program development, process optimization, equipment validation, and continuous improvement.
Derek founded Lake Effect Engineering with a simple mission: to provide practical, hands-on engineering support to manufacturers that need experienced technical leadership without the expense of a full-time engineering team.
He believes the best engineering solutions are practical, data-driven, and tailored to the unique challenges of each facility. Whether supporting a capital expansion, improving a maintenance program, or solving a persistent process issue, Derek focuses on delivering sustainable improvements that enhance reliability, efficiency, and long-term operational performance.
